EAPS 2016

The 6th Congress of the European Academy of Paediatric Societies, EAPS 2016, took place this weekend in the beautiful city of Geneva. This biannual event is becoming a major educational and research platform, attracting good presentations that have subsequently appeared in various publications.

The Congress is organised by the three societies: the European Academy of Paediatrics (EAP), the European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR) and the European Society of Paediatric & Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC).

In addition, for EAPS 2016, six other European paediatric societies joined as collaborating societies: the European Society for Neonatology (ESN), the European Respiratory Society (ERS), the European Society for Paediatric Anaesthesiology (ESPA), the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition (ESPGHAN), the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EUSEM) and the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID).

The Congress’ most important content was, as always, the free papers. Submitted abstracts to EAPS 2016 facilitated many debates and useful conversations with the future of paediatrics being potentially enhanced as a result.

SLE were there showing our brand new SLE6000 ventilators, and it’s a good thing that we took two since the queues to see them we very long at times. Both machines were set up to show conventional ventilation, HFO ventilation, non-invasive ventilation and high flow oxygen therapy. Of particular interest to some clinicians was the option to do nasal HFOV – it’s something that’s starting to appear in various publications, so it’s good to be ahead of the curve.

We had some excellent feedback, particularly from the strong contingent of neonatologists there, and received a number of requests for more information and demonstrations.
